Interesting bit on Norman Rockwell...

I picked up a biography of Norman Rockwell and learned something interesting. If you see the attached image, it's one of the paintings Norman did depicting Franklin Roosevelt's "Four Freedoms" (freedom of worship, freedom of speech, freedom from want, and freedom from fear). At the top it reads: "Each According to the Dictates of His Own Conscience." 

According the biography I was reading, Rockwell thought of using the phrase but wasn't sure where he got it from, so he had his assistant check it for copyright claims. They could find none, so he went ahead and incorporated it. It was only after the painting was published that several people wrote and informed him that the phrase originated with Joseph Smith and his publication on the Mormon Principles of Faith.

It makes you wonder if Rockwell ever crossed paths with missionaries or a church publication at some point, because that phrase arose from his consciousness and became part of one of his most famous paintings.
