Pictures from St. George

We drove down to St. George Sunday evening on November 17th so Jason could interview for a job at Dixie Region Medical Center the following day. We were able to visit my old mission companion, Christina (Ashby) Marcano and her husband Cruze. It was a lot of fun to see them and their little baby Claire, about two-months-old.

The photo above is the view from our motel room the following morning. Woke up to red rock, palm trees, and 70 degree weather.

The visitor center is right on the temple grounds there in St. George right in the middle of town. Everything seems right in the middle of town. It's not so big and so spread out in St. George. Reminds me a little of Richland.

It was neat to learn the history of the saints and the temple in St. George. It's funny because you think of St. George as a haven of pleasant weather and a vacation stop, but back then it was barren dessert and difficult to eek out  a living. About half the saints who originally came down ended up moving back north because they couldn't hack it in the unforgiving climate. Apparently today the area is one of the fastest growing in the United States.

The hospital there was beautiful and very new. It would have been a nice place to work. Unfortunately, Jason did not make the cut this time. It was still a delightful trip. I think I could have gotten used to living in St. George! ;)
