Catching up: Playing in the Sticks

About once a year we pack a bunch of snacks and I drive the kids five minutes down the street to ride/walk along the Jordan River trail. It's kind of small, swampy little river with a paved trail from which you can't even see the river half the time, and if you go at the wrong time a day, about a billion mosquitoes, but it's sort of like the equivalent of camping in Utah without really camping. The kids, surprisingly or not, love it. They love getting dirty, they love seeing birds and bugs and a small swampy river, and they love the sticks most of all. This year we did see a couple of pelicans, in addition to the ducks, which was neat.

Oh, and I forgot their favorite part. This is the canal that feeds into the river where the trail begins. In addition to collecting sticks, the kids love THROWING ROCKS to their heart's content.

Kate getting into the fun.

Fun times.
