Something lost

Guess who lost a tooth?

Guess who pulled it out?

Ruth and Lily came up with a game Monday evening where one person would put one of their feather boas in their mouth and the other would pull it out. Jason saw them putting them in their mouths, but he didn't realize they were yanking them out as well. You already know where this is leading, Lily yanks on Ruth's, and Ruth's lower tooth comes out with it. While I helped Ruth calm down and take care of her mouth, Jason looked for the missing tooth. It took him several minutes to locate it, but he did.

We gave the dentist a call. He said girls tend to start losing their baby teeth at six, and Ruth being five, that little tooth was on it's way out anyhow. He summed it up as, "The tooth fairy gets to come early."

At first Ruth was really concerned about smiling and people seeing a "hole" in her mouth. But after we explained (a couple times) that all her friends would be losing their teeth and getting new ones in a year or so, she was excited about being ahead of the curve. It was fun to see her work the camera when I suggested we get a picture of her "new smile."  And the tooth fairy did come, which she liked a lot, although so far she has not removed the quarter from it's spot under the pillow, other than for a picture.
